Diabetesmellitus(DM)isachronicsystemicdiseasecharacterizedbyhyperglycemia,withvariouspatho-genicmechanisms.Fromabsoluteorrelativeinsulindeficiency,patientswithDMoftendemonstratevari-ouslevelsofmetabolicdisorders.MajorclinicalmanifestationsofDMincludemetabolicdisorders,vascu-larlesions,circulatorydisturbancesandneurologiccomplications.AlongwithadvancesinDMresearch,re-portsofDMrelatedtinnitusandhearingimpairmenthaveincreasedcontinuously.ResearchonDMrelatedauditorysystemdysfunctionhasfocusedoncochlearmicrocirculation,cellularhomeostasis,geneticsandag-ing.Cochlearmicrocirculationplaysanimportantroleincochlearphysiologyanditsdisordersareassociat-edwithmanyinnereardiseases.Ischemiaandsubsequentreperfusionseenincochlearmicrocirculationdis-ordersareimportantfactorsinhearingdamage.UnderstandingcochlearmicrocirculationandstructuralaswellasfunctionalchangesinDMpatientswithhearinglossandtheircausalfactorswillhelprevealpatho-genicmechanismsindiabetichearinglossandprovidenewideasindevelopinginterventionsandpreventingdamagescausedbydiabetes.
