摘要 Olderadultsoftenfinditdifficulttoperceivespeech,especiallyinnoisyconditions.Thoughhearingaidisoneoftherehabilitativedevicesavailabletoolderadultstoalleviatehearingloss,someofthemmayexperienceannoyancethroughhearingaidandhencerejectit.maybeduetocircuitrynoiseand/orbackgroundnoise.Acceptablenoiselevelisadirectbehaviouralmeasuretoestimatetheextentofhowmuchapersonisabletoputupwithnoisewhilesimultaneouslylisteningtospeech.Acceptablenoiselevelisacentralauditorymeasureanditisnotinfluencedbyage.gender,presentationlevelorspeaker.Usingthismeasure,wecanquantifytheannoyancelevelexperiencedbyanindividual.Thisinformationisofutmostimportanceandcautionshouldbepaidbeforesettingtheparametersinhearingaid,especiallyforthosewhoareunabletoacceptnoise.Inthisreviewarticle,anattempthasbeenmadetodocumenthowtooptimizethehearingaidprogrambysettingparameterssuchasnoisereductioncircuit,microphonesensitivityandgain.Theseadjustmentsofparametersmighthelptoreducerejectionrateofhearingaids,especiallyinthoseindividualswhoareannoyedbybackgroundnoise.
