Theconcentrationsofnitrousoxidevariesbetween57and329nmol/dm3,saturationis674%～4134%intheZhujiangRiverEstuary.Thissuggeststhattheareaisanemissivesourceofnitrousoxide.Theacetyleneinhibitiontechniqueisemployedtoevaluatetheratesofnitrification,denitrificationandnitratereductionbybacterialactivitiesinthesedimentsatthreesites.Theaverageofnitrification,ticalprofilesofthesedimentsshowthatthenitrificationanddenitrificationprocessesmainlytakeplaceinthedepthfrom0to4cmanddependonregionalconditions.Theratesofnitrification,denitrificationandnitratereductionaredominatedbyEh,nitrateandammoniumconcentrationsinsedimentsandDOinoverlaywater.Thereisacouplingbetweennitrificationanddenitrification.
