Thefishbonemodelisasimplifiednumericalmodelformoment-resistingframesthatiscapableofmodellingtheeffectsofcolumn-beamstrengthandstiffnessratios.Theapplicabilityofthefishbonemodelinsimulatingtheseismicresponsesofreinforcedconcretemoment-resistingframesofdifferentsetsofcolumn-beamstrengthandstiffnessratiosareevaluatedthroughnonlinearstatic,dynamicandincrementaldynamicanalysisonsixprototypebuildingsof4-,8-and12-stories.Theresultsshowthatthefishbonemodelispracticallyaccurateenoughforreinforcedconcreteframes,althoughtheassumptionofequaljointrotationdoesnotholdinallcases.Inadditiontothegroundmotioncharacteristicsandthenumberofstoriesinthestructures,theaccuracyofthemodelalsovarieswiththecolumn-beamstiffnessandstrengthratios.Themodelperformsbetterforstrongcolumn-weakbeamframes,inwhichthelateraldriftpatternsarebettercontrolledbythecontinuousstiffnessprovidedbythestrongcolumns.Whentheinelasticdeformationislarge,theaccuracyofthemodelmaybesubjectedtolargerecord-to-recordvariability.Thisisespeciallythecaseforframesofweakcolumns.
