Soundsourcerecognitionisapartofenvironmentalsoundrecognition,whichisoneofthemostimportantresearchareasinpatternrecognition.Impactsoundscarrymuchphysicalinformationassociatedwiththesoundsources,whichmakesimpactsoundbasedsoundsourcerecognitionanimportantapproachtoimproverecognitionperformance.Inthisstudy,theimpactsoundcontinuumsynthesizedwithaball-platecollisionmodelisusedformaterialrecognitionoftheimpactedplates.Thebasisfunctionlearningmethodandtime-frequencyrepresentationmethods,includingtheshorttimeFouriertransformandthewaveletpackettransform,areappliedintoclassificationandtherecognitionresultsarecompared.TheresultshowsthatthefeaturesobtainedbyusingthebasisfunctionlearningperformbetterformaterialclassificationoftheimpactedplatesthanthatbyusingtheshorttimeFouriertransformandthewaveletpackettransform.Thisdemonstratesthehighefficiencyandsuperiorityofthismethodinmaterialrecognitionofsoundsources.
