Thepaperpresentsanactivecontrolsystemthatcounteractsthedevelopmentofchattervibration.Thevibrationamplitudedependsonthedynamicpropertiesofthemachinetool,cuttingtoolandwork-piece.Inthepaperweanalyzethecasewhenthelossofmachiningstabilityiscausedbythework-piece.Theproposedactivecontrolsystememployselectromagnetorpiezoelectricactuatortosuppressvibrationduringmilling.Theactivecontrolintroducesdampingintothesystem,therebyraisingthecriticaldepthofcutandreducingforcedvibrationamplitude.Itenablesstablecuttingunderamuchwiderrangeofcuttingparametersthatfortheuncontrolledsystem.CuttingtestsareperformedonJAFOFYN-50machinewithmillDIN845B-25K-NHSStodemonstrateaneffectivenessoftheproposedsystems.
