TheNo.3slabcaster,whichmainlyprovidesslabstothe5000mmplatemillatBaosteel,wasputintoproductioninDecember,2004.Thesizeofthebiggestslabproducedbythiscasteris2300mminwidthand300mminthickness.Thedesignedoutputofthecasteris2.3Mt/a.Slabsurfacelongitudinalcrackdefects,whichwererelatedtotheheatfluxofthemold,frequentlyoccurredintheearlystageofthestartupofthecaster.Asmildcoolingpowderisbeneficialtotheuniformityoftheshellofinitialslabs,theconcentrationofstressisreduced,andthelongitudinalcrackingonthesurfaceisavoided.Thisstudyevaluatestheperformanceofseveralkindsofpowder,andtheresultsshowthatmoldpowderofhighbasicity,highcrystallizationproportionandlowheatfluxistothebenefitofthereductionofthelongitudinalcracksonthesurfaceandthedefectsofslabs.
