Japan'srulingLiberalDemocraticParty(LDP)sufferedacrushingdefeatintheAugust30thgeneralelectiontotheHouseofRepresentatives.Thiswasduetoachangeinelectionrules,thedeclineofLDP'straditionalbasesofsupport,andthelong-standinginternalproblems.IftheLDPnowfailstorespondtothesechangedrealities,itwillfurtherlosecredibilitywiththeJapanesepeople.
