摘要
Forthedevelopmentprocessintherapidlygrowingeconomies,knowledgetransferandtechnologycooperationarebecomingimportantissues.Researchandtechnologicalcompetencesarekeyindicatorsfortheabsorptivecapacityofsustainabilitytechnologiesandfortheabilitytoexportthem.TheseissuesareanalyzedempiricallyforBrazil,Russia,India,ChinaandSouthAfrica(BRICS).SustainabilityrelatedresearchinBRICSismostlycarriedoutwithinbroader,moresectororientedprogrammes.SpecializationpatternsofinternationalpatentsandinforeigntradeindicatevariousstrengthsandweaknessesoftheBRICScountries.Thedifferenceswithinthecountriesimplythattheanalysismustproceedatatechnologyspecificlevel.Chinahasconsiderablecapabilitiesintechnologiessuchasphotovoltaics,solarthermalorbuildings.Thereisastrongneedforstrategicpositioningofthecountriesandforcoordinationofthevariouspolicyfieldsinvolved.
