AstructuralanalysisoftheInternationalThermonuclearExperimentalReactor(ITER)vacuumvessel'slowerportregionwaspresentedbymeansofafiniteelementanalysismethod.Thepurposeistoevaluatethestressanddisplacementlevelonthisstructureundervariouscombinationsoffivedesignedloads,includingthegravityofthevacuumvessel,seismicloads,electromagneticloads,andpossiblepressureloadstoensurestructuralsafety.ThecyclicsymmetryfiniteelementmodelofthisstructurewasdevelopedbyusingANSYScode.There-sultsshowedthatthemaximumstressdoesnotexceedtheallowablevalueforanyoftheloadcombinationsaccordingtoASMEcodeandtheninevacuumvessel(VV)supportshavetheabilitytosustaintheentireVVandinvessel-componentsandwithstandloadcombinationsunderbothnormalaswellasoff-normaloperationconditions.StressmainlyconcentratesontheconnectingregionoftheVVsupportandlowerportstubextension.
