Withrapidscientificdevelopmentandfurtherexplorationtowardsthenature,thehumankindhopestoservethemselvesbymasteringthenaturallaw.CountriesallovertheworldsetmuchvalueonthestudyofAntarcticaandhaveobtainedplentyandsubstantialachievements.SoastostrengthenmutualunderstandingamongthecountriesinAntarcticsurveyingandmappingandsharetheachievements,the'InternationalGISWorkshoponAntarcticKingGeorgeIsland',Wuhan,July6th～7th,2000wassuccessfullyheldintheLectureHalloftheNationalLaboratoryforInformationEngineeringinSurveying,MappingandRemoteSensing(LIESMARS).ItwasjointlyheldbytheNationalResearchCenteronAntarcticSurveyingandMappingandLIESMARS,andsponsoredbytheNationalPolarRegionInspectionOffice,NationalNaturalScientificFoundationCommittee,theStateBureauofSurveyingandMapping,theformerWuhanTechnicalUniversityofSurveyingandMapping.
