SolublemalewormantigenofSchistosomajaponicurn(Sj)wasinvestigatedfordevelopmentofnewvaccinecandidate.SDS--PAGEandWesternblottingwereperformedtocomparethedifferencebetweensolubleantigensfromwormsofdifferentsex.MicevaccinationwiththetestingpurifiedproteinwasfollowedbySjcereariaechallengetodetecttheprotectiveeffectagainstSj.Sixteenbandswereseenforthesolublemalewormantigenand12forthefemaleworm.Inaddition,adistinctbandof44.6kDafromthemalewormantigenwasobserved,anditsantigenicitywasdemonstratedbyWesternblotting.This44.6kDaproteincouldinducesignificantwormandeggreductionrateinmice(39.31%,41.98%,P<0.001).Inthisstudya44.6kDaproteinwasisolatedandpartiallycharacterized.Itsantigenicity,immunogenicityandthepartialimmuneprotectionsuggestitspotentialvaccinecandidteagainstSj.
