Weproposedaschemeforthereconstructionofthequantumstatesforthecenter-of-massvibrationalmodeoftwotrappedions.Intheschemetheionsaremultichromaticallyexcitedbythreelasers.ThenmeasurementofthedifferencebetweenprobabilitiesoftheionsbeingbothinelectronicgroundandexcitedstatesdirectlyyieldstheWignercharacteristicfunctionforthecenter-of-massvibrationalstate.Theschemecanalsobeusedtoprepareentangledcoherentstatesforthecenter-of-massandrelativevibrationalmodes.
