摘要
AmajoroverheadinsoftwareDSM(DistributedSharedMemory)isthecostofremotememoryaccessesnecessitatedbytheprotocolaswellasinducedbyfalsesharing.ThispaperintroducesadynamicprefetchingmethodimplementedintheJIAJIAsoftwareDSMtoreducesystemoverheadcausedbyremoteaccesses.TheprefetchingmethodrecordstheinterleavingstringofINV(invalidation)andGETP(gettingaremotepage)operationsforeachcachedpageandanalyzestheperiodicityofthestringwhenapageisinvalidatedonalockorbarrier.AprefetchingrequestisissuedafterthelockorbarrieriftheperiodicityanalysisindicatesthatGETPwillbethenextoperationinthestring.Multipleprefetchingrequestsaremergedintothesamemessageiftheyaretothesamehost,Performanceevaluationwitheightwell-acceptedbenchmarksinaclusterofsixteenPowerPCworkstationsshowsthattheprefetchingschemecansignificantlyreducethepagefaultoverheadandasaresultachievesaperformanceincreaseof15%-20%inthreebenchmarksandaround8%-10%inanotherthree.Theaverageextratrafficcausedbyuselessprefetchesisonly7%-13%intheevaluation.
