    摘要 Usingcryogeniclasertechnology,itisnowpossibletodesignanddemonstratelasersthathaveconcomitanthighaverageandpeakpowers,withnear-diffraction-limitedbeamquality.WerefertothesenewlasersystemsasHAPPlasers.Inthispaper,wereviewimportantlasercrystalmaterialspropertiesatcryogenictemperature,withanemphasisonYblasers,anddiscusstheimportantdesignconsiderations,includingthelaser-induceddamagethreshold,nonlineareffectsandthermaleffects.Acomprehensivemodelispresentedtodescribediodepulsedpumpingwitharbitrarydurationandrepetitionrate,andisusedwiththeFrantz–Nodvikequationtodescribe,tofirstorder,theperformanceofHAPPlasersystems.Acomputercodewithrepresentativeresultsisalsodescribed.
