摘要 Byintroducinganimageplane,theinverseheatconductionproblemwithfreeboundaryistransformedintoonewithcompletelyknownboundary,whichismuchsimplertohandle,asaby-product,theclassicalKrichhoff'stransformationforaccountingforvarialbleconductivityisrederivedandaninvarianceproertyoftheinverseproblemsolutionwithrespecttovariableconductivityisindicated.Thenapairofcomplementaryextremumprinciplesareestablishedontheimageplane.providingasoundtheoreticalfoundationfortheRitz'smethodandfiniteelementmethod(FEM),AnexamplesolvedbyFEMisalsogiven.
