TheCDFexperimentstarteddatatakinginApril2001,Thedataareorganizedintodatasetswhichcontaineventsofsimilarphysicspropertiesandreconstructionversion.theinformationaboutdatasetsisstoredintheDataFileCatalog,arelationaldatabase.Thisinformationispresentedtothedataprocessingframeworkasobjectswhichareretrievedusingcompoundkeys.Theobjectsandthekeysaredesignedtobethealgorithms'viewofinformationstoredinthedatabase.ObjectsmayuseseveralDBtables.Adatabaseinterfacemanagementlayerexistsforthepurposeofmanagingthemappingofpersistentdatatotransientobjectsthatcanbeusedbytheframework.Thislayerexistsbetweenthealgorithmcodeandthecodewhichreadsdirectlyfromdatanbasetables.Attheuserend,itplacesget/putinterfaceonatopofatransientclassforretrievalorstorageofobjectsofthisclassusingakey.DataFileCatalogcodemakesuseofthisfacilityandcontainsallthecodeneededtomanipulateCDFDataFileCatalogfromaC++programorfromthecommandprompt,ItsupportsanOracleinterfaceusingOTL,andamSQLinterface,ThiscodeandtheOravcleimplementationofDataFileCatalogweresubjectedtotestduringCDFCommissioningRunlastfallandduringfirstweeksofRunIIinApril.Itperformedexceptionallywell.
