Thedeterminedresultsofthesulfurcontentsandisotopiccompositionofcoalsamplesfrommajorcoalminesin15provincesandregionsofChinashowthatthecoalminedinthenorthofChinaischaracterizedbyhigher^34Sandlowersulfurcontent,butthatinthesouthofChinahaslower^34Sandhighersulfurcontent.Duringthecoal-burningprocessinbothindrstrialanddailyuseofcoalasfuelthereleasedsulfurdioxideisalwaysenrichedinlightersulfurisotoperelativetothecorrespondingcoal;theparticlesarealwaysenrichedinheaviersulfurisotope.Thediscussionontheenvironmentalgeochemicalsignificanceoftheabove-mentionedresultsalsohasbeenmade.
