Hydrothermalchimneyisaproductofhydrothermalactivityontheseabed.ChimneysamplesdredgedfromJadehydrothermalareainIzenadepressionoftheOkinawaTrough,arecharacterizedbyrelativelyenrichedlightrareearthelements(LREE)andstronglypositiveEuanomalies.87Sr/86Srand143Nd/144Ndofthesesamplesareexactlybetweenthoseofseawaterandofacidicpumice,averagedat0.708928and0.512292,respectively.ThesecharacteristicsimplythatthemainsourceofhydrothermalsulfideatJadeareaispossiblytheundersurfaceacidicrocks.Themineralizingmechanismcanbesummarizedasfollows:LargeamountofmineralizedmaterialwouldbeleachedoutandLREEenrichedhydrothermalsolutionwouldbesubsequentlyproducedasaresultofthermo-chemicalexchangereactionbetweenacidicvolcanicrocksandheatedseawaterthatpenetratedinadvancefromupperwatermass.ThespurtingoutfromtheseabedandquicklycrystallizingintheseawaterofhydrothermalsolutionareresponsiblefortheformationofCu-Znsulfideandbarite-amorphousSiO2mineralsthatarecharacterizedbyenrichedLREEandpositivelystrongEuanomalies.
