Teleconnection between Sea Ice in the Barents Sea in June and the Silk Road, Pacific-Japan and East Asian Rainfall Patterns in August

    摘要 IncontrasttopreviousstudiesthathavetendedtofocusontheinfluenceofthetotalArcticsea-icecoverontheEastAsiansummertripolerainfallpattern,thepresentstudyidentifiestheBarentsSeaasthekeyregionwheretheJunesea-icevariabilityexertsthemostsignificantimpactsontheEastAsianAugusttripolerainfallpattern,andexplorestheteleconnectionmechanismsinvolved.TheresultsrevealthatareductioninJuneseaiceexcitesanomalousupwardairmotionduetostrongnear-surfacethermalforcing,whichfurthertriggersameridionalAnomalousdownwardmotionthereforeformsovertheCaspianoverturningwave-likepatternextendingtomidlatitudes.Sea,whichinturninduceszonallyorientedoverturningcirculationalongthesubtropicaljetstream,exhibitingtheeast-westRossbywavetrainknownastheSilkRoadpattern.ItissuggestedthattheBoninhigh,asubtropicalanticyclonepredominantnearSouthKorea,showsasignificantanomalyduetotheeastwardextensionoftheSilkRoadpatterntoEastAsia.AsapossibledescendingbranchoftheHadleycell,theBoninhighanomalyultimatelytriggersameridionaloverturning,establishingthePacific-Japanpattern.ThisinturninducesananomalousanticycloneandcyclonepairoverEastAsia,andatripoleverticalconvectionanomalymeridionallyorientedoverEastAsia.Consequently,atripolerainfallanomalypatternisobservedoverEastAsia.Resultsfromnumericalexperimentsusingversion5oftheCommunityAtmosphereModelsupporttheinterpretationofthischainofevents.
