Theyear2014wasatippingpointfortheBarackObamaAdministration—thatwastheyearwhenitstrovetoforgealegacyoftheObamaerabutcameupagainstchallengesarisingfrommajorchangesthatweretakingplaceinternationallyanddomestically.TheAdministrationwasthenfocusedonmaintainingafragilebalancebetweencreatingthislegacyandrespondingtothesechallenges.Obamastucktohisfundamentalprincipleswhendealingwithoverseasaffairs,buthealsocameupwithnewresponses.Thedynamicbalancestruckbetweenthesetwoformedthebasisoftheglobalstrategyofthelate-termObamaAdministration.TheAdministration'sfocusatthistimehighlightsthedilemmaitfacedinforgingalegacy.Further,theforeignpolicyofObamaandTrumpareactuallynotsodifferent;theybothsupportedsomedegreeofisolationismwithafocusondomesticissues.
