FossilleafremainsoftwonewspeciesofPerseaMill.,belongingtothefamilyLauraceaecollectedfromthelowerpartoftheSiwaliksediments(GishClayFormationofSevokGroup,MiddleMiocene)ofDarjeelingfoothillsofeasternHimalaya,aredescribed.ThenewspeciesarePerseamiogambleisp.nov.andPerseaneovillosasp.nov..Onthebasisofleafarchitecture(size,shapeandvenationpattern)fossilleavesdescribedinthisarticlecloselyresemblemodernleavesofPerseagamblei(KingexHook.f.)Kosterm.andPerseavillosa(Roxb.)Kosterm..ThegeographicdistributionofthefossilsandtheirmoderncounterpartsarediscussedandonthatbasistropicalevergreenvegetationwithawarmandhumidclimateatthetimeofdepositionoftheSiwaliksedimentsissuggestedincontrasttothepresentdaytropicaldeciduousvegetationinthisarea.ThepresentfindingalsosuggestsprobablemigrationoftheselauraceoustaxatoSoutheastAsia.
