A new unified theory of electromagnetic and gravitational interactions

    摘要 Inthispaperwepresentanewunifiedtheoryofelectromagneticandgravitationalinteractions.Byconsideringafour-dimensionalspacetimeasahypersurfaceembeddedinafive-dimensionalbulkspace-time,wederivethecompletesetoffieldequationsinthefour-dimensionalspacetimefromthefive-dimensionalEinsteinfieldequation.BesidestheEinsteinfieldequationinthefour-dimensionalspace-time,anelectromagneticfieldequationisobtained:aF^ab--ζR^baA^a=-4πJ^bwithζ=-2,whereFasistheantisymmetricelectromagneticfieldtensordefinedbythepotentialvectorA^a,RabistheRiccicurvaturetensorofthehypersurface,andJ^aistheelectriccurrentdensityvector.Theelec-tromagneticfieldequationdiffersfromtheEinstein-Maxwellequationbyacurvature-coupledtermζRb^aA^a,whosepresenceaddressestheproblemofincompatibilityoftheEinstein-Maxwellequationwithauniversecontainingauniformlydistributednetcharge,asdiscussedinapreviouspaperbytheauthor[L.-X.Li,Gen.Relativ.Gravit.48,28(2016)].Hence,thenewunifiedtheoryisphysicallydifferentfromKaluza-KleintheoryanditsvariantsinwhichtheEinstein-Maxwellequationisderived.Inthefour-dimensionalEinsteinfieldequationderivedinthenewtheory,thesourcetermincludesthestress-energytensorofelectromagneticfieldsaswellasthestress-energytensorofotherunidentifiedmatter.Undercertainconditionstheunidentifiedmattercanbeinterpretedasacosmologicalconstantinthefour-dimensionalspacetime.Wearguethat,theelectromagneticfieldequationandhencetheunifiedtheorypresentedinthispapercanbetestedinanenvironmentwithahighmassdensity,e.g.,insideaneutronstarorawhitedwarf,andintheearlyepochoftheuniverse.
