Numerical investigation of air-entrainment in skimming flow over stepped spillways

    摘要 Asawidelyusedfloodenergydissipator,thesteppedspillwaycansignificantlydissipatethekineticorhydraulicenergyduetotheair-entrainmentinskimmingflowoverthesteps.Thefree-surfaceaerationinvolvesthesharpdeformationofthefreesurfaceandthecomplexturbulentshearflows.Inthisstudy,thevolumeoffluid(VOF),mixture,andEulerianmethodsareutilizedtosimulatetheair-entrainmentbycouplingwiththeReynolds-averagedNavier–Stokes/largeeddysimulation(RANS/LES)turbulencemodels.Thefreesurfacedeformation,airvolumefraction,pressure,andvelocityarecomparedforthethreedifferentnumericalmethods.OnlytheEulerian+RANSmethodfailstocapturethefree-surfaceaeration.TheairvolumefractionpredictedbytheVOF+LESmethodbestmatchestheexperimentalmeasurement,whilethemixture+LESmethodpredictstheinceptionpointoftheairentrainmentmoreaccurately.
