ByemployingtheNCEP/NCARreanalysisdatasets(1000to10hPa,2.5°×2.5°),thethermalforcingimpactsareanalyzedofaneasterlyvortex(shortenedasEV)overthetropicaluppertroposphereonthequasi-horizontalmovementoftheWesternPacificSubtropicalAnticyclone(shortenedasWPSA)during22-25June2003.Therelevantmechanismsarediscussedaswell.Itisshownthatthedistributionandintensityofthenon-adiabaticeffectneartheEVresultintheanomalouseastwardretreatoftheWPSA.TheWPSAprefersextendingtothecolderregion,i.e.,itmovestowardtheregioninwhichthenon-adiabaticheatingisweakeningorthecoolingisstrengthening.DuringtheWPSAretreat,theapparentchangesofnon-adiabaticheatingillustratethecharacteristicsofenhancedcoolingintheeastsideoftheEV.Meanwhile,thecoolinginthewestsideexhibitsaweakenedeastwardtrend,mostprominentlyat300hPainthetroposphere.Theevidenceonthefactorscausingthechangeinthermalconditionisfound:themostimportantcontributiontotheheating-ratetrendistheverticaltransportterm,followedinturnbythelocalchangeintheheatingratetermandthehorizontaladvectionterm.Asaresult,theatmosphericnon-adiabaticheatinggeneratedbytheverticaltransportandlocalchangediscussedaboveismainlyconnectedtotheretreatoftheWPSA.
