摘要 TheSteckelmill,alongestablishedsolutionfortheeconomicalproductionofrelativelysmallvolumesofhotrolledstrip,hasbeenrejuvenatedinrecentyearsbyarangeofnewapplications,boostedbytheneedofimprovingtheenergeticefficiencyoftherollingprocess.ThetraditionaladvantagesoftheSteckelmillintermsofflexibilityandreducedcapitalandoperationalcostsarenowenhancedbytechnologicaldevelopmentsthathavesignificantlyexpandeditsapplicationrangeintothecombinedproductionofstripandplateandimprovedtheproductquality.Theincreasedawarenessofthenecessityofasustainablegrowthinthesteelindustryhasstimulatedthedevelopmentofprocesssolutionswithanimprovedefficiencyintheuseofnaturalresources,lowercarbonemissionsandincreasedyield.ModernSteckelmillsareanadequateresponsetothetrendtowardslowenergystripandplateproduction,inparticularintheirplate-Steckelmillvariant.SiemensVAIhaveplayedakeyroleintheinnovationandtransformationoftheSteckelmillconcept,withanumberofrecentinstallations,presentedinthispaperfromthepointofviewoftheircontributiontothedevelopmentofgreenersteelrollingtechnologies.
