Phytochromes are Involved in Elongation of Seminal Roots and Accumulation of Dry Substances in Rice Seedlings

    摘要 Phytochromeshavebeenreportedtoplayimportantrolesinseedlingde-etiolationandfloweringinrice.Toidentifytherolesofphytochromesinregulatingrootgrowthandaccumulationofdrysubstances,thelengthsofseminalrootsandthedryweightsofseedlingsweremeasuredinthewildtypeaswellasthephytochromeA(phyA)andphytochromeB(phyB)mutantsgrownunderdifferentconditions.Whenthewholeseedlingswereexposedtowhitelight,theelongationoftheseminalrootswassignificantlyphotoinhibitedinthewildtype,whereasthisinhibitoryeffectwasclearlyreducedinthephyAandphyBmutants.Whentherootsoftheseedlingswereblockedfromwhitelight,thephyAandphyBmutantsexhibitedsignificantlylongerseminalrootsthanthewildtype.Theseresultssuggestthatboththeroot-localizedandshoot-localizedPHYAandPHYBareinvolvedinthephotoinhibitionofseminalrootelongationinriceseedlings.Bymeasuringthedryweightsofrootsandshoots,itisrevealedthatPHYBpositivelyregulatestheaccumulationofdrysubstancesinshoots,however,PHYAexertsthecontraryeffectsontheaccumulationofdrysubstancesinrootsandshootsofriceseedlings.
