Anoveladditiveincorporatedintothecatalystforremovingtraceolefinsfromaromaticswasproposed,andunderthelaboratoryconditionsthelifetimeofthecatalystwasincreasedfrom5hto8huponspecifyingtheconversionoftheolefinsequatingtomorethan55%asacriterion.Catalystproduction,whichwasnamedROC,hasbeensuccessfullyscaledupfromlaboratoryformulationstocommercialscalemanufactureandover100tonsofcatalysthadbeenproduced.ThesuperiorityincatalyticactivitywasidentifiedbytheevaluationtestsoftheROCcatalystbasedonwhateverkindoffeedstocks(withtheirbromineindexrangingfrom400mgBr/100gto1200mgBr/100g)beingusedasthefeedstock.TheX-raydiffractionpatternshadverifiedthattheadditivewashighlydispersedonthesurfaceofcatalyst;theGC-FIDanalysisresultsshowedthattheROCcatalystcouldincreasethexylenecontent;thepyridine-FTIRspectroscopicanalysessuggestedthattheadditivecouldincreasetheamountoftheweakLacids,whichwasthemaincauseleadingtoenhancementofthecatalystactivity.
